BMH & Hi Lite Mall Join hands to save lives

Kozhikode: Sudden cardiac arrest can happen at any time, to anyone, of any age, in any location. It is the leading cause of death in Kerala, with nearly four out of five cases occurring outside a hospital. Bystanders–whether in a public gathering space such as an airport or shopping mall, or in a workplace–play an in important role in improving the chances of survival. Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a small portable device which can deliver an electric shock to a person's heart. This shock can help the heart to return to a normal beating rhythm. The AED is simple device which can be handled by any layman by following simple instruction.

Using an AED immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can increase the chance of survival by more than 90%. The survival rate is reduced by approximately 10% for each minute that defibrillation is delayed. The combination of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED can literally bring a person back to life!

Baby Memorial Hospital & Hi Lite Mall have come together to make this life saving device available at Hi Lite Mall. This will bring quick access to AED in case any incident of sudden cardiac arrest in Hi Lite Mall. The Emergency Department in Baby Memorial Hospital will train the security staffs of Hi Lite Mall on CPR and use of AED.

Dr. KG Alexander, Chairman and Managing Director of Baby Memorial Hospital dedicated this to the public during an event organized at Hi Lite Mall on 5th March 2017. The team lead by Dr. Fabith Moideen, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Baby Memorial Hospital, demonstrated CPR and use of AED to the public. A flash mob by students of Baby Memorial College of Nursing was the highlight of the event.
